H.C.F

H.C.F (Highest Common Factor ):

H.C.F (Highest Common Factor ) of two or more numbers

is the greatest number which is a divisor or factor of all the

numbers involved.

When the given numbers have been resolved into prime

factors, the H.C.F is the product of all the common factors.

Each common actor is considered once only with the minimum

exponent which appears in it e.g. H.C.F of 480 , 360 , 600 is 120.

It can be found as under:

480 = 2^5 \times 3 \times 5, \, \, \, \, \, 360 = 2^3 \times 3^2 \times 5, \, \, \, \, \, 600 = 2^3 \times 3 \times \times 5^2

Thus H.C.F = 23 \times 3 \times 5 = 8 \times 3 \times 5 = 120.
